parkruns near and far, marathons and a Christmas Cracker


There were some excellent results at parkruns on Saturday 7th December for members of Almost Athletes.

At the Stratford Park Stroud event, Matt Polson was first to finish in 20:41 and Helena Youde was 1st lady in 26:06.

Ben Taylor came 2nd overall at the Gloucester Kingsway parkrun with his time of 19:27.

In Gloucester City parkrun Ben Stone came 4th overall with a time of 19:31, whilst Jo Foster was 3rd lady at Newent with 21:26.

Matt Proome was 7th overall and first in his age category at the South Shields parkrun. He also achieved a new PB with his time of 20:41.

At the King George V Cheltenham parkrun Hamish Adamson came 5th in 21:45, closely followed by Duncan Mansour in 6th place with 21:46. Ingrid Harris was 4th lady to complete with 25:13 and Danny Magovern was 2nd in his age group with 25:41.

In Cheltenham Pittville Park, Brian Todd achieved a new PB of 24:06, as did Penny Lewis who knocked 34 secs off her previous best time.

Other parkruns in which members of Almost Athletes took part included Bury St Edmonds; Cirencester; Fire Service College; Heaton; Mallards Pike; Seven Fields; Teignmouth Promenade; and Victoria Dock, London.

There were a number of other events over the weekend in which club members took part.

Dave Chittock and Deb Cartlidge both completed the Salisbury Plain Marathon on Saturday in a time of 4:48.

Elzbieta Antosiewicz achieved a new PB in the Finsbury Park 10km race on Saturday with a time of 1:03.

Also on Saturday, Allan Green ran the Fonte Vella International Marathon in Lanzarote, finishing 2nd in his age category with a time of 4:25.

Josh Hand and Martin Foster both ran the Telford 10km on Sunday. Hand finished in 37:03, and Foster achieved a new PB of 37:32, 14 secs faster than his previous best time for this distance.

On Sunday, Russell Jones and Rob Rennell took part in the Weston Christmas Cracker 10km race. Jones finished in 1:08 whilst Rennell achieved a course PB of 1:17.

Karla Cleverley completed the Lapland Challenge in Portsmouth over the weekend. The series of events involved a 1 mile, 2km, 5km, and finally a 10km race, which all took place over Saturday and Sunday.

On Sunday 8th, there was an England Athletes Club Run specialist coaching session for Almosts training for 20 mile and marathon events. Almost Athletes had successfully applied to the EA for a series of three sessions, of which this was the first. Head Coach Bryan Clinton of Swindon Harriers led the 2 hour session which took place at Old Pats from 10am to midday. The subsequent sessions will take place on January 4th and February 23rd.
