Club Charities for 2023/4

Our club has supported three charities this year – Emily’s Gift, Sue Ryder, and research into Prostate Cancer.

Emily’s Gift

Mitch and Michelle Balchin presented Emily’s Gift a cheque for £750, at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital in June.  They are a new children’s cancer charity founded under the umbrella of The Pied Piper Trust to raise £500k by March 2024 to finance the employment for 10 years of a specialist psychologist with expertise in the care of children and young people with cancer.

Sue Ryder

We raised £706 for our local Sue Ryder by selling coffees, cakes, etc at our Linda Franks raise, which we made up to a donation of £1,500.

Ben Stone presented our donation to Sue Ryder’s Laura Jeffries om 19 June.  They support people who are living with a terminal illness, a neurological condition or who have lost someone. This donation was in memory of Marty Ward, one of our members who suddenly passed away late last year. Sue Ryder was chosen as it was a charity which Marty supported. Ben was joined by Marty’s wife Rachel and Marty’s mum Trish (either side of him).

Research into Prostate Cancer

The club made a £750 donation to Prostate Cancer UK in August.  A local presentation was not possible so we have made an online donation which will help them in the fight against prostate cancer. This disease has directly affected a number of our club members and and the family members of many more.
