Club Charities for 2026-27

At our 2026 AGM we agreed to support the following four charities (in no particular order):

Ward Buddies at the suggestion of Patricia Dendy, Cots for Tots at the suggestion of Sandra Stuart, Teenage Cancer Trust at the suggestion of Kevin Keegan, and Endometriosis UK at the suggestion of Zakia Hussain.  More details will be announced in due course about our efforts to help these worthy charities.

Club Charities for 2025-26

Our four main charities for 2025-26, agreed at our 2025 AGM, received club donations of over £3000. (£750 each, except The Big Space Cancer Appeal received £860.58 from Linda Franks cake proceeds).   They were Read for Good, British Blind Sport, The Archie Matthews Trust and The Big Space Cancer Appeal.  Additionally, our members raised money for charities as individuals, for example Cat Harker, who ran the London Marathon and raised an astonishing £4,000, to add to the £860.58 from the club for cake sales. And Cat is not alone!

 Read for Good

Read for Good delivers programs designed to support parents and professionals working with children and young people to help enable, empower and inspire a life-changing love of reading. Children who read for fun are more likely to do well at school, have jobs they love and lead happier, fulfilled lives.

 The Archie Matthews Trust

The Archie Matthews Trust is raising awareness of young men’s mental health challenges and neurodiversity, and providing support for young men across Gloucestershire and surrounding areas. The Archie Matthews Trust was set up by the Matthews family in response to the loss of Archie to suicide as he did not receive the support he needed from local services and agencies to overcome the challenges he faced.

British Blind Sport

British Blind Sport is a charity that works across the UK. It works to ensure that people with sight loss have the same opportunities as sighted people to access and enjoy sport and physical activity. This includes everything from taking a fitness class at your local gym to competing in the Paralympic Games.
