Runners of the Month, 2012

 

Every 4-6 weeks or so the committee nominate one or two Runners of the Month – these are people who we feel have worked hard and improved in some way, whether that is by running their first 5K, coming back from injury or completing a longer event in an exceptional time.

John (aka Spiderman) has been very helpful to others in the club, sacrificing his own times in races to help others achieve theirs. He has taken on the role of ‘personal trainer’ to some and is always willing to give advice and to help out with sweeping at the back of the group on club nights.

Dale has been training hard and reaping rewards with his times this year, knocking minutes off times at all distances. He has also been extremely helpful with the trophies for the awards evening. Thanks Dale!

After competing in several triathlons this year Hazel turned to the marathon distance (with support from her ‘Coach’ John Galpin) at Wolverhampton and then completed her first ultra at the JW 30 mile trail run. Good running Hazel!

Ingrid has worked hard this year to improve her marathon times and was 1st lady at the JW Ultra 30 mile race – well done Ingrid!

Helen has been working hard at both her distance and speed and has been rewarded with some great PBs recently, particularly in the half marathon and 10K. Well done Helen!

Glen has been running well since her recent injury. She is always cheerful and encouraging and has been a great help to the club both in marshaling and on the race committee.

Dom has been working hard since running his first marathon in Chester last year and is consistently improving on his 10K and half marathon times.

After training hard and running many marathons over recent years, Jean managed to crack 4 hours at Brighton this year with an impressive finishing time of 3.58.40. Congratulations Jean!

Michelle has been consistently improving her race times recently and was 1st lady in the Aviator 4 mile race. Well done Michelle!

Ed Collier is a worthy winner this month after working hard to reduce his race times and gain age group PBs including 1hr 25 mins for a half marathon (Wokingham) and 64 mins 10 secs for 10 miles (Melksham).

Phil Withers gets the award this month for knocking 40 minutes off his marathon PB at the Gloucester Marathon in January (in a time of 3.49). He also explains what led him to enter Gloucester and his experiences on the day.
