Runners of the Month, 2015

 

Every 4-6 weeks or so the committee nominate one or two Runners of the Month – these are people who we feel have worked hard and improved in some way, whether that is by running their first 5K, coming back from injury or completing a longer event in an exceptional time.

A relative newcomer to running, Matt continues to enjoy great form and has recently qualified for the Good For Age start at next year’s London Marathon with his 3.14.32 result at the Yeovil Marathon. Well done Matt!

Michelle has earned the honour of being ROTM this month for her continued dedication and hard work, resulting in a fantastic 3.38 in horrible conditions at the Stratford Raceway Marathon. Michelle is also heavily involved in the Cheltenham Junior Parkrun. Great work Michelle!

Dan has been steadily progressing with his running since joining Almost Athletes and recently completed the Cheltenham Half Marathon (his first half) in under 2 hours. Congratulations Dan!

Dale is well known within the club for his engraving skills – he provides most of the trophies for our races and awards! Dale enjoys his running, always aims high and has recently qualified for a Good For Age place in the London Marathon with his fantastic 3.13 finish at Abingdon. Well done Dale!

Craig is a worthy winner this month for continuing to train hard and improve at all distances – including his sub 1 hour 30 minutes at the Cheltenham half marathon. Well done Craig!

Rob needs no introduction as he is well known within the club, often on the sidelines of races taking photos in all weathers in his capacity as ‘Almost a Photographer’. You are doing a great job Rob!

Congratulations to Virginia who was nominated for her commitment and contribution to the club. Virginia can often be seen helping out at races and is a very reliable and cheerful volunteer.

Liz regularly volunteers to lead a group on a Wednesday, is always enthusiastic and is a great role model for our up-and-coming runners. She enjoys her running and achieved a half marathon PB this year in Torremolinos.

James is very well known within the club and regularly volunteers to lead groups since qualifying as a Leader in Running Fitness – he is also involved in our new Beginners’ Group. James has also recently run the entire length of the Cotswold Way (102 miles) in just 3 days. A fantastic achievement James!

John has been working hard to improve his race times after being out of action with a groin injury. His regular attendance at speed sessions, together with his endurance running at weekends has enabled him to achieve a marathon PB at Belfast this year of 3 hours 39 minutes. He also recently volunteered to act as the Devil (sweeper) in our DCC race. Well done John!

Sandra has been a regular at most road and off road events this year. She is always cheerful and enthusiastic and not afraid of new challenges. Her dedication to her training for the London Marathon meant completely reorganising her work pattern which resulted in a fantastic time of 4 hours and 36 minutes. Fantastic, Sandra!

Amber has been hard at work, achieving personal best times at a variety of distances this year. She has been part of the winning ladies team at several events and was recently placed 1st female aged 16-30 at the Westonbirt 10K. Well done Amber!

Jackie regularly organises and leads weekend marathon training runs and is always cheery and encouraging. She is steadily building up her marathon portfolio including, most recently, Brighton and Yorkshire. Keep it up Jackie!

Graham (otherwise known as ‘Bruce’s dad’ – Bruce being his dog!) is a richly deserving candidate for this month’s award. Graham has recently taken on the challenge of his first aquathlon and has volunteered to guide a visually impaired runner in the British 10K in London. Congratulations Graham!

Congratulations to Rich Gilbert – not only has he fought back from injury to take part in the Tokyo marathon, but he is now the proud owner of all 6 Marathon Major Medals (London, Berlin, Boston, New York, Chicago and Tokyo). Well done Rich!

Well done Fi for your sub 4 hour marathon at Manchester! Fi trains hard and is constantly improving – and often helping out with marshalling etc. Congratulations Fi!
